27. Yes, manufactures will install "opto-couplers" (they are not opto-couplers), and then you'll only have USB 1.1. There are several points here:
    – USB Killer creators claim it is an ESD testing device: It is not! It is a device that is only useful to vandalize;
    – USB Killer creators claim that most laptops and desktops are unprotected: Nope, all motherboards that I've seen have ESD protection. But no ESD protection is able to cope with the levels of energy that this device outputs. It is the same as putting your PC inside a microwave oven.
    – USB Killer creators claim that "opto-couplers" will protect PCs: Although they are effective at that, I don't think any isolation device would be able to withstand that voltage and current.

    Also, opto-couplers are unidirectional, while the USB bus is mostly bi-directional (USB 3.0 has uni-directional TX and RX lines, though). There are isolators (not opto-isolators, but capacitive ones, of course) available for USB, but they are only good for USB 1.1 .
