  4. Bring back the old Defender. This is NOT a Defender. The old Defender was iconic. This one is very forgettable. No one will miss this one when it's gone in a few years. You want to do something radical? Make a run of the Series 1A, and you won't be able to make enough of them to satisfy the demand. Bring back the old Defender. This one is a mistake. New Coke was a failure. New Defender is a failure.

  5. The front row center seat… Anyone else notice how poorly this was done. Full size American pick-up trucks perform this feature very well! I am surprised by how poorly this was finished. Make the headrest removable or collapsible and add some better storage and tray designs. The seat is a feature that will be barely if ever used. Make it better for the driver and passenger.

  8. Errm, I think I’d prefer the old one, company’s are so good at telling you what THEY think a car/suv/4×4 should look like without asking any current Defender owners what it should be like.
    This is a Land Rover designed by Techies in a boardroom who have too much money to spend.
    The Defender is an icon, rugged, simple and basic, this is anything but.

  10. too much plastic on the front and rear approaches. very expensive damage while offroad unless you hand pick and and bring a bulldozer with you to level off the approches to inclines and declines… sadly everythign is being ruined like this so unless you give them a face and tail lift with aftermarket parts your going to end up with a scatched, cracked and just plain crushed bunch of plastic

  11. All they needed to do was keep the old shape outside AND inside as far as they possibly could, and only make changes to comply with current regulations, air bags etc.
    No frills or extras whatsoever. They now have a base price defender.
    Then give us a list of all the whistles and bells to choose our own to add as we want.
    Job done.
    I've got a current discovery 5 and this is virtually the same car with a boxy body? :-/

  22. This is yet another fawning advert, not a review at all. And the painted panels in the rear glazing look revolting, who on earth signed that nonsense off? Oh and it starts at £50k for the base model? Really?! Farmers and builders will continue to buy their Isuzu's and Hilux's and the new Defender will become yet another urban yummy mummy car, to go with all the others in LR's range. Why on earth did they do that? Too much model overlap and nothing really honest. Such a shame.

  28. Looks like a sick child of the fantastic discovery 3 or 4 with the badge of a defender while it looks nothing like the originals, this is a massive swing and miss, defenders are meant to be the barebones reliable option, this is a technology filled joke

  41. The old defender was a cramped , poorly built , rusting , unreliable piece of junk that was good at only one thing but not the best , it dies because it hardly changed . This new one will be less reliable , more expensive and nowhere near as utilitarian . and its built in slovakia , oh dear
