  1. I just got my guitar a few days ago and i learned how to play a few simple songs and i wanna do a full cover on one but singing at the same time is so hard

  2. This is beautiful! Now I need his voice and your guitar skills! I’d be livinggg! I love this approach to singing. So true you got to sound bad first! Lol “but some people don’t” haha 😆

  3. Great info thanks. I don't have issues with shape forming on r timing. Mine isolating the right string using a pick and not eating carried away and really banging the strings when strumming with a 0.5 Tortex

  4. Hey Marty is there anyway that you can do a lesson on Oh my sweet Carolina!? It’s a Ryan Adams song but Zac Brown does a cover that is outstanding and would make for a great acoustic video lesson!

  5. I can't even play and sing Wonderwall without crying at the part "there are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how"
That would be pretty embarrassing in front of a crowd lol

  6. Singing/Playing comes naturally to some folks. It DIDN'T for me. At all. After years and years of very mediocre guitar playing and utter lack of ability to sing along, I realized the "secret" is internalizing rhythm. If you can't EASILY tap your foot along to the beat while playing, you're lost. Learn to do that. Practice that until you can alternate foot taps between left and right feet. With the fundamental timing internalized, singing along will come rather naturally.

Basically, I'm agreeing with what Jason said: Get out the metronome and get in tune with the actual timing of the song. The advice Marty gives about focusing on the lyric that goes along with a chord change did NOT work for me – and I attempted that technique for years. Sorry Marty. Got nuthin but love for you, but that approach just didn't work for me.

Without a real grasp for the TIMING of music, you are musically lost. Timing has improved my guitar 10 times more in 2 years than 20 years of technique practice.

  7. Just this week I asked my guitar teacher if we could do some songs that are fun to play and sing at the same time and how I can do that in an „easy“ way.

  8. I start by 1st Learning the Song ( instrumentally ) . . . then: "Humming the Vocal Melody" in my head, and next: trying to Progress towards Singing it. ( practice ). Plus utilize the Tips & Tricks mentioned in this video. Marty Always Sharing the Knowledge. oNe LovE from NYC.

  9. Hey Marty, love your channel. I was wondering if you can teach a song called Deep water by London McNamara. I heard it while I was stationed in Hawaii and I loved hearing the song over the radio. I couldn't find any tutorials on how to play the song mostly because he was a local artist. Hope to hear from you.

  10. Learning to sing with my ability of playing bass. You can be the best bassist around, but walking into an open jam and calling out a tune? Forget it. I like to jam on Bruce’s bass with Live Cream, specifically Spoonful and Born Under A Bad Sign or his later stuff like Buddy Guy’s, First Time I Met The Blues. So, I have decided to learn to sing the heads so I can play the instrumental section jazz improvisation like Jack. Jack is a tenor soprano so by dropping my vocals an octave, it’s in my range while still fitting the song key. By singing the head, the house band can follow me. Do more of these voice lessons, Marty. Good info here, thx.

  11. I have no idea what this vid contains in detail and I won't watch it because I can't even do one of these two things BUT picking up this problem and giving at least some advice might be the priceless advice Mr Cobain was so thankful for

  12. I recommend doing some really easy songs. Like Stand By Me by Ben E. King, Good Riddance (time of your life) by Green Day, Horse With No Name by America, and Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. Those are some really simple songs that you can learn pretty quickly.
