1. This is a terrible and non-scholarly approach to presenting your work. I want to talk to colleagues in person about the details of their work, not go home and skim their work online which I'll never do anyway. This is a great format if you're shy and never want to win a poster prize, though.

8. Great – more rules and regulations to conform to as a grad student. You could have just suggested this is a good design. Instead you pitched this as the 'best' design. The arrogance here is super irritating. Some people do spend lots of time reading a poster. Also, you don't actually know better. For example, how about having elements of the poster viewable from 10', then other elements at 5', and others at 3' away? Alternatively, perhaps you could draw on some techniques from advertising? Instead you think you figure out a solution for every single poster in every conference situation ever.

17. But, in most of the conferences I’ve been the posters are vertical – not horizontal….

18. I used this for a poster at the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry – the conference organizers sent out this video ahead of time and I'd estimate that 20% of the posters used this format. MUCH better for strolling through and the layout itself elicited many comments – thanks!!

19. As someone who has both presented at and been an attendee at many poster sessions in several unrelated fields, this idea is great. Your description of how it feels to attempt to find interesting posters is spot on. All the times I have been wandering around I inevitably end up getting stuck at a handful of posters, and only realize later I'm out of time and can't see anything else. Plus standing there silently reading while the presenter tries not to be awkward is like pulling teeth. If my PI is willing, I think I'll be trying out something akin to this the next time I do a poster.

25. It mentions that you only have an hour to look at the posters, but aren't they usually up for a day or two before the actual presentation? I believe the best way is to scope them out first before the presentation and then go to talk to the presenter of the poster(s) that interested you for clarification or just conversation. Just a thought.

    Also, this makes it seem like you're leaving more through this process but it feels like you just get a very superficial glimpse at what is happening and rewarding short attention spans. You're not really learning but maybe at the most becoming more aware of what's going on in your field.

27. This is so funny:) Exactly what I thought about posters sessions: ) If main idea is put in center it doesnt make it false or true by default ( like some others suggested). It makes it simply readable from far to spark the interest to get you closer. Maybe its false, maybe its true, you have more reading to do anyways to judge. But at least that would be reading because you are interested in, not a reading to see IF you are interested at all! Makes a difference and saves time.

31. I was nearly in tears at least twice – laughing. Thanks for some levity along with the reality. As someone who started as the presenter (the first 3-5 years) and is now the attendee and even a poster session judge (for the next >10 years), ALL OF THIS IS TRUE. The new format would force presenters to know their details (rather than read them to the attendee) and give those essential bits to stimulate discussion, while also giving that walk-pace highlight that an attendee will really appreciate. The QR-code linkages to the details are highly appreciated.
