Only 2 days after watching this video I actually tripped over in a car park and fell full length. I asked my partner to get the esky out of the car and was able to easily get myself upright by using this. Thank you
My knees are problem I can't put any pressure ( kneeling) and I have problem with my arms wrests so this is not possible for me .books are trow out by my husband and am to fat for any of this .
Great video! Seen before but forgot!! Super helpful!!!
Too good thanks. I will try. As i fall very often due to osteoarthritis and knee pain
when I fall in the house it is HORRABLE. I have a weak left shoulder ( from rotator cuff injury ) I am very weak, house is SMALL, so I can't turn over to get up on my hands and knees. I fell last night, would of not been able to get up if my son were not here to help me – PS I have epilepsy also
Seriously? Who does not know how to get up? THe problem is those of us with very bad knees that can not be used at all! And all of these use the knees!
Clicked on this because my now deceased grandmother had a spill and was stuck for hours on the floor. It stunned me (I was an early 20 something). I couldn't imagine this capable woman ever stuck in such a way. Anyhow, I have zero idea as to whether these techniques would have worked for her, but at 47 years old now, I was still looking to understand how she could get stuck.
Watching technique after technique, I realized how much I take for granted core strength, stability, and balance. The value is in thinking like one who is committed to overcoming the limitations of weakness, instability, and imbalance.
These techniques are not absolute, but are exercises for such persons limited by advanced age, weight issues, illness, or injury. It's a brain trainer. Yet, I see countless negative remarks in the Comments feed that insult and discredit a well-meaning presenter because she's – gasp – young, fit, and able-bodied. I read a dozen of the negative posts before writing this and NONE of the criticisms I read provided a link to obtain any "effective tecniques"; they just torpedoed these good efforts with the end result being the institutionalized-government-dependent mentality of : "I can't, I CAN'T! You don't know how it is for me! Your way won't work! So, nothing will work!! I'm doomed! DOOMED!! Just give up!!!"
ugh. That was never grandma, and is not me or mine.
Take a look at what this woman offers.
Consider your own body habitus, needs, limitations, resources, environment, and preparation, and develop her MacGuyver mentality to solve your problem … as best you can.
But, by all means, have HOPE in your situation and don't waste your energy denouncing best efforts that seem to not solve YOUR specific problem.
As for the book tower, I'd have liked to seen you pause for a bit and flip through a book on your way up.
Thank you. Im 79 and I live alone in an upstairs apartment.
After a stroke Upper torso is normally very weak and many can only use 1 hand. The model is normal and has use of both hands.
I doubt very much if this would work for me I use to weigh 422 now I am down to 315 in a year but I think I would still have a hard x getting up I hope to lose another 50
Really great video id suggest adapting it for disable ppl then sent it out .. I have cpi thunk im the inch worm technique
I hadn’t even thought of some of these. Very useful information.
I noticed a lot of post expressing weight issues to your demo. Well, I am heavy, extremely bad back two knee replacements, "old". However this is the first time I have seen alternative techniques to at least try . Based on your techniques I have practiced several by getting help to lay down and testing out each one with assistance of someone watching. It makes a big difference to know these techniques no matter what your size . You are the first therapist to even demonstrate some ideas to try, all other therapist just do exercise, pushing limbs back and forth and massaging. The key if you fall is to lay still and determine if you are injured and then work on the techniques you have practiced. Thanks for sharing your expertise on this subject, they will help no matter what your disability or size is. Pounding on the door is a good one, even if you can't move at all, throw things at the door or walls – making noise is all part of getting help.
These tips will only work if you're slim and agile! And it's VERY irresponsible to tell someone to use a ladder-back chair as a sitting point! Most of these would NOT take the weight of a body, as they're not made of strong wood and, even if they are, the joints will not very likely be able to withhold any significant weight!
I'm going to work out how to do the book lift to use in the bath! I tried using a modified plastic box but it was too difficult to mount. Thanks for your ideas
Hey! I'm 83 weight 73kg 1,8 tall
and both times I've tripped and fallen it has been outside and forwards – last week as it was cold I had my hands in my pockets – bad idea – as I smashed my specs into my face. So take some tips from that ! Kind lad walked me home.
Please show how a heavy person with arthritis can get up after a fall. Had a fall after seeing this and it was helpful however due to the pain in hips and arms it was very difficult. I managed by telling myself to power through the pain and fortunately I had fallen between the desk and a chair so I made it.
I fell a few weeks ago. I used the couch arm but dislocated my shoulder, which I had had trouble with in a previous fall.
This could come in handy. Thanks for the visuaL.
Last time I fell on the floor was during a blackout when the roof leaked onto the floor and I suddenly found myself on my left hand and knee in pitch black. Couldn’t move because floor had water in all directions. My husband finished up putting a sheet under me and I wriggled into another room to sit on stairs to a lower level.
