  1. I think GREED is the reason why Europe lost its tech companies and now is loosing its tech jobs. I have seen a lot of EU companies moving to the Cloud in the last years and outsourcing the support in India. Same in Australia, support for big tech companies is done from China now. And it's not that they are better in India or China, far from it, but they are way cheaper.

  2. Because European tech companies realized decades ago that they couldn't complete with the Japanese on the consumer level, so they focused more on industrial clients.

Maybe Poland can become a "tech heaven".

  3. the main reason is we are just to slow. We are really good cars and machines only cause we got there with price and quality first. This will never happen again unless we change the system.

  4. Another extremelly serious reason(if not the ONLY reason) is the political WILL of the hegemonic U.S.Empire to whom ALL European Countries are Vassalls & all European governments are puppets…so, there are no significant European Tech-Players because the Deep State wants it rhat way..Strict European "privacy" laws are BULLSHIT when it comes to global NSA surveilance & spying on EU Citizens even Merkels phone was hacked by the Americans & NOTHING happened to prevent it from happening all the time..Merkel & the embarrassing & pointles talking head (Bundespräsident) Gauck had to SWALLOW the shit like beaten dogs & shut their mouths.. So one more time, it's not about innovation or education, it' s always about some jew who will, eighter buy or steal an Idea (like Zuckerberg, Bezos or Bryn) & then will get enormous funds from some jewish US Bank to get massive amonts of Servers or producktions started so it will become a Monopoly right the way AND THAT'S IT : Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Facebook & Co run the IT World…

  5. What does free healthcare and longer vacations have to do with a dismal technology sector?

Europe doesn't have a smart phone sector or any real innovation due to chronic nepotism within the financial and power structures of the European nations. America can innovate because that country is set up to reward bright ideas and provide adequate funding to bring new products to market, regardless of the political connections of the inventor. Europe is regressing into obscurity and irrelevance, let's see how long a poor Europe, that can no longer hide behind America, can maintain all these generous "benefits"!

  6. I lie that at the end you mentioned that all those regulations, taxes, etc., are there for something. In my opinion, from the EU perspective, the situation in US and China means that big companies have it easier because they can prey on smaller ones, on workers, and on customers. So of course: if you let big companies do what they want, they'll grow even bigger. But in consequence you have worse worker and consumer rights, worse healthcare, worse education, worse public services, exploited environment… Comparing EU to other parts in the world only by the number of tech giants is like comparing ancient civilizations by how rich their emperors were.
And I think in IT we have a kind of a Stockholm's syndrome (a really ironic name in this case). We, people working in IT, tend to think of ourselves as if we were just one step of becoming CEOs of the next tech giant. We cheer for less regulations as if less regulations meant something good for us. We see ourselves in that big tech team, and we tend to forget that even if we are a part of big tech in some way, even more than that we are citizens, workers, and consumers. And when there is a conflict between a big company and us as citizens, workers, or consumers, EU is there to stand on our side.

Still, what you described is a real problem in Europe. I recall Emmanuel Macron declared some time ago that EU needs to develop its own tech, because – for example – we can't rely on American technology in communication, especially in private communication between heads of European countries. But, as always in Europe, changes are slow.

  7. Your perspective is a bit capitalist focused on money. Linux and Git are both European products and together have generated more value for the industry than the 10 biggest tech giants combined. Only bc they are free and open-source are they ignored.

  8. China is a huge danger to the world. America and Europe are progressive and continue to try to improve environment and worker rights, but China is willing to treat their workers like slaves, and western corporations are ok with hiring Chinese slabs over more expensive western humans, thus increasing unemployment, entrepreneurship and investments in western economies.
Basically if we don’t crack down on China, we can’t have the standard of living humans deserve
