I want to thank anyone that takes the time to watch this video – I appreciate it! I hope you find some value in it, and I also invite you to read the comments below. A lot of people have added some helpful information to what I put in the video, and I think you could profit from their wisdom. Thank you!
Awesome thank you very Much! It made sense to me… and ofcourse quick look before changing lane is a must..
I had been driving using the old set up for years! lol! Had a few close calls because of it. A few months ago I saw a video on YouTube that showed the same method you demonstrated on this video. It was like day and night. Big difference. lol!
11/19 It's strange already and I haven't moved the car.
Thank you for your very clear spoken presentation. Many blessings ro you and yours.
3:36–3:40: Say no more- I'm changing my mirrors the way that Stan suggests!
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Thought i was doing the side view correctly all this time.
The correct way feels very weird and unsafe because I'm not use to it (can't see the side of my car). But will keep it this way until i get use to it.
Stan – couple of things I noticed. Your anti glare setting is not correct. It should be pushed to the front of the vehicle for normal setting. The setting to the rear is the anti glare setting. Second, whilst we have 180 degrees of vision normally (healthy eyes), when travelling at 60 KPH (approx 38 MPH), we loose about 30 degrees of vision in both eyes, and the faster you're travelling, the greater this loss becomes. Often called tunnel vision. You should NEVER just rely on your mirrors to check what's beside you when changing lanes.
Good video. Thank you
Slight forward lean as you scan the side mirror is safer and more efficient than turning your head to look over either shoulder. Try it and see…your blind spot.
Thank you so much for this. In my SUV I have a really hard time seeing smaller cars in the mirrors, and a quick glance over the shoulder doesn't always do it either, because of the large struts between the rear and side-rear windows. Now I think I'll have a much better way to cope with this.
very helpful
Ive been telling people this for years. A motorcyclist, can fit in that blind spot. Which is EXACTLY the reason why we get hit almost every day. Properly done, your left, center, and right view mirrors create a visible "wrap-a-round" up to both your left/right peripheral vision. Every one I know, and love have all thier mirrors pointed to damn near the full back end of thier cars.
There still is a blind spot at 4:06. It's pretty quick since the car on the left is speeding by but if that car was going around the same pace, it can still sit in the blind spot. I never can trust the mirrors but the blindspot sensors keeps me alert.
Wow never knew this and I've been driving a long time
May I know how are you going to see your own car body vs the side of the vehicle when you are doing your reverse parking?
Fiddlesticks! Get blind spot mirrors and use default ones same as before still having your car in the corner to maintain reference. Once I tried to use the proposed way, I've completely lost orientation behind me and where the approaching cars were in relation to my rear end. If you can't have extra mirrors, do shoulder checks (mandatory in Manitoba). Sonars are also good. Bottom line: no way I am adjusting my mirrors to look somewhere, without any reference to where they are actually pointing at. Tell automotive engineers to incorporate split mirrors into their blueprints. That would be better!
TOO MUCH VIDEO JUMPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent video! My son just started driving and we had some near misses with blind spots in the left lane. I figured we needed to probably adjust the mirrors better. Even me, who has been driving for over 30 years learned something valuable from this video. Thanks!
I do like this method but it's difficult to see the traffic behind you in the lane you're about to merge into without leaning.
YOU ARE RIGHT , THANKS A GREAT DEAL !
Thanks so much. Been doing it wrong my whole life.
At first I though "Who the heck does not know how to adjust their mirrors?"
Apparently me!
This method could cause a blind spot by the rear quarter of the vehicle, This happened to me when I first started using this method. So keep this in mind, and a quick shoulder check is always a good idea.
I'm going to give this a try, but my biggest concern isn't necessarily blind spots while driving, but reversing down a driveway. I'm guessing it takes a bit to get used to reversing with this mirror setup. I would be concerned about proximity of things to the rear wheels and not having the best view for reversing due to not seeing the side of your car and being able to gauge proximity of things on either side of the rear of the car. With this mirror setup, is the only benefit pretty much eliminating blind spots while highway driving? It seems like it could potentially decrease the safety of reversing, but I could be mistaken since I haven't tried it yet.
would these settings work in the uk where we drive on the left side of the road
Thanks for the video dude you are such a beast
Perfect video ever. Thanks for making this. For a new driver like me, this is very useful! God bless you 😀
I found out earlier I was doing what everyone else does for their mirrors like you showed in the beginning, thanks for showing me how to be safer on the road
True for highway.. But not for parking situations
So my small blindspot mirror is just an sticker that says I don't know how to set my mirrors. Damn
