  1. Can you do a video on how to approach broad chords that may be too wide for your hands? Like how to play an 11th if you can only fit a 9th in one hand? Do you just have to revoice it?

  2. Outside of 4'33", my first, favorite experience of John Cage, was when my Theory 1 professor (Ed Brown, rest in piece!), intro'd the class by playing a prepared piano piece by John Cage. That singular moment cemented my love for 20th century music.

  3. It's kind of like a man and women being bastardized into all the forms of what we have today. Gays , lesbians, bi's, trans. gender benders, queers etc…..U took happy birthday and made it sound like SHIT.

  4. This is the second of your happy birthday videos I’ve stumbled into, after Steve Reich. It’s also the second time that happy birthday has ever sounded like music. I’m now your newest fan.

  5. Very easy! Just close your eyes and bang on the piano keys. Or, even better, just sit in front of an instrument and do nothing like his masterpiece 4 '33.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

  6. Or, you know, we could make great music by not sounding like a Psychadelic Mushroom enthusiast completely out of his mind…it's one thing to be edgy but Cage is no Schonberg…I'd be hardpressed to say that there is even anything Cage "wrote" worth noting in any Musical setting: except to say "How to not be taken seriously by the Musicians of the World of the Present, and of the Future."

  7. Ms. Sol you do not need to mechanically modify your piano. There are software synthesizers which map a keyboard to any instruments and audio and even human spoken words. You can play a tune on the keyboard, capture the midi and then pass that to the said Synths. I do that often, my problem is, we need the technical expertise a world class pianist of your magnitude to develop the keyboarding.

  8. If ever possible i would like to sound like Enesco or others like him.Cage….just cage him;-))).Too late..escaped into …somwhere. Now really. Why would anyone wish to sound like Cage?Even if only as a joke or game.Better ..do nothing..much healthier.Already so much useless sounds made nowadays. Why add some more garbage?Guess it's enough by now.By the way .I have a friend who plays in Bruckner Orchester,Linz. One of the best in Austria. He's got evenings (modern or contemporary #music;-))when he says''Mon cher…I can't do it anymore really. If you would be here you would probably kill somebody;-)).I am going to play some idiotic crazy work tonight.Hope to survive''.And we laugh. He does survive…but I can understand his pain.

  9. Easy: play nothing!

*Edit: I wrote that as a joke before watching before watching the full video, because the only piece I know by him is 4:33, but oh my god, how did you do that!?! This was absolutely amazing! You have inspired me to go check out more of John Cage's music! I have listened to Derek Bailey and it sounds similar. Thanks so much:) You're amazing <3

  10. Awesome Nahre. On this channel you are introducing/informing on so much music design, composition and performance that it's usually less accessible due to requiring a higher level of music literacy just to communicate and demonstrate these ideas.

  11. I know it's somewhat antithetical to the point of his prepared piano, but have you considered making a sample pack, so people could experiment with composing for it without risking piano destruction.

  12. John Cage and Steve Reich were my introduction to modern art music. It makes me really happy to see you walking pieces of the road they (and others) mapped out for us
