  1. I do landscaping and gardening and believe me there's a jungle out there and poison ivy is a oil base plant and to combat it is used a oil based substance of treading oil and paint thinner mix on the go. May be useful for people who work in the trenches.

  2. Definitely solid advice. As a kid, I used to get terrible poison ivy rashes all of the time. Seemed like I had it constantly during the warmer months. I can't recall the last time I've had it now. Probably been over 10 years. Part of the reason is that I have become much better at avoiding it. I am always aware of any variety if I'm near it, and I always take measures to ensure I wash the oil off of my skin if I even suspect the possibility that I have come into contact with the oils (from the plant itself or shoes, gear, etc.)

  3. I searched for tea tree oil, not sure why this was recommended to me by YouTube. Although I watched it and learned something new about coming into contact with poison ivy. However, unlike this guy, I’ll remember to wear full sleeves and protective gear.

  4. To clean grease, gasoline, or greasy substances, I first apply a generous amount of hand lotion to my hands. I rub my hands as if I'm washing them. Second, I partially rinse them and then apply Dove body wash to them. Lather well, half rinse, add more Dove, lather and rub heavily soiled spots until they are clean. Then rinse everything well.

You wouldn't think Dove body wash would do anything. But with the lotion, it works better than dishwashing detergent.

  5. Thanks so much I didn't know what you just informed me of but long ago I would do what you suggest and it totally works. It was the though scrub Fter exposure that kept me from getting it and I would've it horribly. Thanks

  6. As a kid I figured out the need to wash with soap and just lukewarm water enough to remove all my skin oil including on my eyelids. If I got soap in my eyes that was good. Wash down four or even five times completely but don’t wait too long. I got poison oak so bad as a kid I had to think of something. This was my process as well. Glad you are getting it out so those that listen and do will not have to suffer. For me about two weeks to start getting over it. Many mornings waking up with eyelids so swollen I could not open them and eye goo sticking my eye lashes together so I had to use a warm wash cloth to soak the goo off. The best thing ever is to move to a local where that crap doesn’t grow just like I did. 🙂

  7. I've been told by idiot DOCTORS not to rub it when cleaning! IDIOTS!
You musMUST rub it with soap (DAWN OR HAND CLEANER) then rinse like he says THREE TIMES since you can't see urishiol oil! You don't need Zanfel! ($40 for one ounce!)

  8. Many years ago I was exposed to poison ivy on my legs and hands. I just did what my gut feeling told me to do. I washed many times using the bar of soap as the scrubber on the exposed areas. No rash. This video pretty much confirms that.

  9. If it is an oil why not just rub isopropyl alcohol on your skin and wash it off? The oil will dissolve in the alcohol and then once the alcohol is removed surely it would be 100% gone.

  10. And how would I know that I came in contact with poison ivy or one of the other plants that produce urushiol? Oh yeah, I get a rash and start itching. Too late at that point cause I've already pissed and shit in the woods and I didn't bring any soap on the overnight camping trip and it's three hours on foot back to the car. Guess I'm fucked. Yup, that's the way it went several times, even on a couple of day trips.

  11. As a child and teenager then finally as a Southern outdoorsman I used to suffer annually from debilitatiing urushiol outbreaks. Horrible. An old Cherokee indian friend of the family told me in his poor english, "Jerry, eat some of it and you wont get it anymore" Really I replied? Have you eaten any? Hell no he says, I take good long baths each night I am around any of it. Sage advice with some native humor. Great VIdeo and thank you from the bottom of my itchy little heart. Furthermore! The old wives tale about scratching it will spread it? Not true!
It travels in your bloodstream , subcutaneously and can pop up ANYWHERE on your body for no reason other than you have blood flow there!

  12. And do you then have to throw the wash cloth away? Because if it doesn't wash off you then does it wash off the wash cloth? or spread it to the other clothing in the wash?, underwear say?

  13. All you have to do is apply common rubbing alcohol liberally to a paper towel on all of the areas of your skin the oil comes in contact with. No need for Dawn and fancy soaps. Once I did this method I haven't gotten again.
