www.tedxfremont.com Currently 100 million Americans are pre-diabetic or diabetic, and one in three kids born after the year 2000 will develop diabetes. Neal Barnard, clinical researcher and founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), identifies the causes of this serious issue and advises us how we can fight these statistics.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. My nana was in the hospital last week and she was diagnosed with diabetes. The hospital fed her orange chicken and rice for lunch with lemon pie… her sugar was 300 and A1C was 10. That is what they fed her … unbelievable

  2. I was obese twice in my lifetime. 230 lbs was the worst I got. During those two times, my diabetic markers were high enough to be on the verge of needing medication. Both times I cut my carbs down to less than 10% of my intake and both times, I lost all the weight and the markers went down. Also, my triglycerides reduced from 300s to 50. HDL went from 20s to 70s. And I only had exercise moderately.

  3. You know, this bloke seems to forget we have hands, we don't need to rip our feed apart with our teeth. That's why we grew thumbs etc. to become adgile enough to do things like make fires and tools.

  4. Humans have eaten meat and plants since the beginning. We are omnivores by design. He said that we eat an average of 200 lbs of meat and that is bad – WRONG. Do a search online: The average person consumes 150 pounds of sugar per year–compared to just 7 ½ pounds consumed on average in the year 1700. Humans are not designed to eat that amount of Sugar…….. SUGAR IS THE PROBLEM!

  5. Humans when we were still animals never had access to fruit everyday day. They didn’t eat rice or grains…. they ate wild plants and vegetables nuts seeds fruit when in season and animal protein,,, they didn’t eat apples everyday

  6. Those in the carnivore community (people who eat almost only animal products and little to no carbs, including fruits and vegetables) also have great insulin resistance. Their diabetes also goes away as well as the calcium levels in their arteries. I think the most important thing is to remove vegetable oils and all processed items. This is not saying that he is wrong about his dieting suggestions, just that there are other healthy options also. The big thing is removing highly processed foods, which vegetable and seed oils are highly processed.

  7. The proof is in taking your own blood sugar test after eating the types of foods he recommends. Test it and watch it soar. Really horrible information this "doctor" is giving.
