  1. My Sister and I visited the Red Light District in 1973. We were 19 and 21 and it was a little scary. There was NOBODY..NADA walking down the alleys. It was strictly business then. The Prostitutes beat women up if they came to stare. We have normalized perversions again.

  2. the area was established as a brothel for sailors, you know this, but your gentrifying butts want to act brand new and move the prostitutes out of the neighborhood. you should move to the outskirts and stop trying to impose your standards on a way of existence that was there long before you showed up…it's people like you that kill the uniqueness of areas like the red light district..you make some money, you get older, then you begin to think you are more entitled to have things the way you want simply because you believe you are entitled. simply add more public toilets and more police walking the beat might lessen the problem.

  3. There are plenty of vacant shop fronts since the girl windows have been moved around. Someone should set up public toilets, employ a cleaner and charge a euro per visit.

  4. The first thing she said was I think more and more people are coming…well what’s the problem..no but seriously..you should respect the land you walk on..and respect the girls because at the end of the day we are all very lucky to hav Amsterdam..you don’t know what you have had until it’s gone….flights booked can’t wait..respect is on the way ladies…

  6. So Amsterdam thinks they can have red districts alongside regular neighborhoods? Plus, if this is a global touristic spot, then plan infrastructure accordingly to the amount and type of tourism that you are attracting.

  7. Tis not only Amsterdam but Utrecht, den Haag, Alkmaar have RLD's as well. Rotterdam closed down its RLD so it is an achievable objective tho that action increased illegal (unlicensed) "street" prostitution elsewhere. Imo, relocating to a larger, more open area outside of muncipality would not destroy Amsterdam but enhance its beauty… create a new chapter of its rich history.

  8. The district should use some of the profits accumalated over the decades from drunken sailors and tourist to build more toilets and efficient garbage collection system that befits a major tourist attraction spot.

  9. Is the government of the Netherlands making money from
    the red-light district?

Why would anyone want to live near pubs, prostitutes, people
relieving themselves on the sidewalks and hordes of people
(from who knows where) on one's doorstep?

    @ 2:50 … Take pubs taken out of a red-light district ???
(Getting drunk is a prerequisite for most who visit prostitutes!)

    @ 3:42 … Visitors don't *respect prostitutes ???*
(Since when did anyone respect prostitutes? … Certainly not their customers!)

Those two women who live in the red-light district are in denial.
    I feel sorry for the young girl who is being exploited as a prostitute;
(but in Europe there are other alternatives besides being a hooker
    to avoid starvation)

  10. Amsterdam has been known because of the red lights district…if the red lights district will be moved at the edge of the town, then the centre of city of Amsterdam will be another European centre without any kind of interesting for the tourists…and don't forget also 2 priceless points:
    1). Tourists = €money &
2). Dutch people are very loyal to the €money…
    as simple as that…

  11. I totally understand the citizens. Isn't there some serious but pragmatic politicians in the municipal?. It seems like capitalism have been given to wide space in favor of smart pragmatic ways to keep the city attractive both to citizens and tourists

  12. In Roman days prostitutes done a public service for the public good and she was worship for it, since the rise of Christianity it became for money and naturally they put it down and this is part of the outcome, even St Paul sitting in Jail wrote letters condemning it.

  13. I was in Amsterdam 10 years ago. I think that the girls working in the RLD are very noticeable and inviting, trying to attract tourists. This is where the problem begins.
