  20. People are acting like characters in a clichéd disaster movie. They trudge through on with life disregarding the ominous foreshadowing. The radio report about the dangerous possibility gets shut off, the “crazy” scientists with bad hair are ignored by the politicians, and so on.

    I can picture the scene, set in a “middle class” couple’s inexplicably well-furnished and neat bedroom with a tv on one wall showing the news while Character #1 packs a suitcase.
