Thank you for this gem, This was when I became a fan of the singin mailman..
Damn. I knew nothing about this show, At SUNY New Paltz , I expect. I was just across the River at Vassar.
I believe this was in April of 1973. Opening act was Sandy Denny. Then John Prine and the headliner was Randy Newman. It took place in the SUNY New Paltz Gym. It was an amazing concert. I was a huge Prine fan and also Randy Newman. They both went on to win a slew of Grammy's and other music awards. John was fabulous as was Randy. This version of Dear Abby is the only live cut on his album Sweet Revenge. He wasn't happy with the studio version so they used this one.
canadian root probly – …. i was cryin ice cubes , Hopin id Croak , when the Sun come thru the window , the ice all broke , Stood up n laughed , thought it was a joke …
I'm a longtime Leonard Cohen fan, just discovered John Prine, it's like listening to Cohen's long, lost brother.
Wow! Thank you to whoever thought to record this! As I recall, this was the opening act for Phil Ochs. Ochs didn't show up. I doubt that anyone in the audience had ever even HEARD of John Prine, but he won us over. I'm pretty sure he did a second long set for those who were upset about Phil not showing, but I don't recall anyone being upset. This guy was GREAT! Still is, actually….
One of America's greatest songwriters! Love you John Prine.

It was such an innocent time

Superlative John Prine. Wish I could have seen this show.
Give my soul
Brilliant! TELL US A STORY JOHN. I yelled that just before 'Sam Stone' at a concert once. Bad timing. But damn, I love his stories. I want to sit by his campfire in heaven. I think even Jesus will understand his Jesus songs.
He gets more music out his thumb and index finger than anybody I've ever heard. That's all he uses…..two fingers, pretty good !
I was introduced to the songwriting/singin' of John Prine in autumn 1972…and have NEVER witnessed
any better songsmith in the decades since then…this LIVE recording is what I fell in love with…the 'storyteller'
in G, C, and D…three chords and truth for sure.
would like to see inside his head. Great talent.
At 27 minutes there's a station ID for Sunday Night Concert series 93FM WXRT Chicago. The only date that falls on a Sunday is Nov. 4, 1973.
The Best! And still putting on great shows
solid evidence we need mental health doctors in this world with the 1 thumbs down on this show.
"Blow up Your TV" was my anthem in the 70s.
What a great find. Thanks for posting. Just love me some John Prine
thankx Jason.
Joseph Sigur …he's still God today, just older. Even God I guess gets older.
John Prine in his prime! Great show.
