For anyone who is too lazy to watch the whole video:
– You CAN use a 4K TV as your computer monitor (most people won't even notice the problems)
– The main issues to consider are 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling & Input Lag
– Not all TVs have these issues, some are perfectly acceptable as monitors if you don't mind the size
– The important point is that you are aware so you can identify and research on your own
lol. you people are funny but it's good to try and keep everything honest.
Wow, learned a lot, and maybe avoided an unsuitable purchase! Thanks!
I see TVs with latency of 4 ms nowadays
I Use 720p Or 1080p TVs As Computer Monitors, If That Is Good Or Bad, Let Me Know!
I get a serious eye strain headache when I use a 40” tv as a monitor. Nice video
interesting
Does games crashes on some tv's? I use the tv as a monitor but is small and not 4k. All games crashes on my monitor
3 years on, I have a 65" 4k TV with 15ms in game mode for £450
What a waste of time, spends half the video telling people what they use their TV for and then tells us at the end he’s only going to give us 2 reasons why some TVs fall short.
"Why you shouldn't…"
(goes on to say that there are plenty of cases where you can and even should)
Indeed "game mode" (which actually usually just eliminates different video effects which increase lag) gets most displays into . Indeed, most TV displays that are 4k UHD can be setup for lag the same as monitors, and with some video tweaks on your pc, any text distortion can be essentially eliminated. In short, unless you're doing computer animation or still graphics creation or editing, there's really not a lot to worry about…even with the less expensive displays. If you're really unhappy, up your zoom. You'll still have vastly more real estate than you could in any other non 4k environment.
What a bunch of crap lol
Got PUPPY chow mein???
Plot twist
How about using a pc monitor as a tv?
My biggest issue is scaling. Sometimes things will be WAAAY too small, or a game will be halfway offscreen.
was there Adam Ragusea for a moment?
BTW are there monitor's that doesn't need a computer and you can play games with it
I bought a TV as a display, and i have had nothing but issues, I bought a tv with 4k, HDR and 120hz. NONE of these work. TV runs at either 4k 30hz or 1080p 60hz. cant get 60hz on 4k. 4k at 30hz is unbearable. and HDR doesnt work either. I tried a custom setting in NVIDIA control panel for 4k 60hz, and it just looks awful. very blurry. I have a pretty solid machine BTW so I highly doubt thats the issue (2x GTX 1080's, 64gb DDR4, AMD Threadripper 1950x) I use this machine for Autodesk Maya rendering so a giant display is a must. but so far this is seeming to be a waste of my time and money
bought a monitor 2 days ago and took it back yesterday, a dying technology in a world of cheap TVs.
not a big game player, so i have two 32 inch tv's that i have been using now for over two years as monitors. and so far been great, but now i am looking to buy two 4k curved ones. so now that i know this is ok i am going to get them. thanks.
WRONG !! – WATCH THIS GET THE FACTS !!!!———–https://youtu.be/GluabQZnNNQ
I don’t like your comparison of using a cheap brand tv. You should use comparable prices
i have a 250$ vizio tv. aside from its anoyying fucking OSD constantly popping up any times i start a game or alt tab into/out of one, it works fine. no noticeable input lag, gaming mode is actually its fake 120hz mode, and it supports all the ancient shit you claim it dosent.
Not a good comparison. $400.00 is a low end tv and $800.00 is an upper end computer monitor.
YOU ARE TOTALLY FAILED TO EXPLAIN…
Hey David new subscriber here. I’m looking to use a 24inch led tv as a monitor. I read something like monitor give off less eye fatigue so I wanted to hear your recommendation for using a tv as a work monitor? Any settings to use to make a tv like a monitor to avoid those eye fatigues?
Most TVs now offer HDMI 2.0 inputs with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling. Also, input lag is fine for most uses, definitely not that high as it used to be, although you won't do "professional fps tournaments" on this thing.
I have a 3 year old Samsung that covers 101% of sRGB (tested using a calibrator) and can get quite a bit low in its blacks. I use it for photo editing and I am very pleased with the results I get. I game occasionally and I tend to also do software development. A 48" 4K display counts like 4×24" 1080p ones arranged in a grid pattern. This is serious real estate!
I first became a convert in 2014 (I had to be very very careful because HDMI 2.0 and 4:4:4 chroma was available in very limited models) and I am not going back now. It's so great, that my employer agreed to let me have one in the office.
New 4K LG nano cell IPS TVs are amazing as PC screens. (HDMI 2.1, 120Hz, 12ms, Dolby Vision HDR, Full-Array Local Dimming, G Sync….) Got a 65" LG OLED as my TV, 55" nano cell for the PC. I've had a lot of different setups but this combo seems perfect.
you're my guy david zhang
U use 10 years old tv idiot
Watching this on 65" Samsung Q70R.
Watching this on my 43" LG UK6300 as my monitor.
Most homes would be ignorant just to use only a monitor.
Get a 50 inch 4k tv screen or bigger, then if you still cannot see windows texts then go and get laser treatment on your eyes, it is still a cheaper option than buying a tiny monitor that you must sit uncomfortably close to, input lag is neglible on most tvs, they even have a preset game mode, also chroma 4:4:4 is available on most modern sets, as is 120hz refresh rate, basically its the same tech as a high end monitor on a much bigger screen and still cheaper to boot, watching online movies in bed is much better than sitting on a swivel chair, this video is two years old so hopefully David has changed his mind since
For videos such as this, any negatives that would be mentioned would be the ones that would cause serious issues or concerns. If color compression and input lag are all that would be of any concern, then the obvious choice is going with a TV. 4k computer monitors are more expensive and smaller in size than many 4k TVs today. I would just need a large and strong enough desk to support the TV.
My 350 dollar monitor does 4k @ 60 MHZ zero lag. Hitachi 50R81 but you need to make sure your video card supports this. My R9 290x ONLY supports this on the Display outlet so you need an adapter that can support this as well. I only found one on Amazon https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S0C7QO8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Nowadays you can find 4k TVs with 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling and very low 10-12ms input lag, easily. And less than half the price of a comparable monitor.
What about hertz?
What two monitors is he using in the video????
Omg this crap doesn’t matter to anyone. I have a very nice LG tv as my display & it works great. It’s 32 & no way am I foolish enough to sit right in front of it like 8 inches away. You notice input lag if you are supper close to the TV. As well your text is going to appear weird if you are super close. Back up a little.
As long as you only need 60 HRZ and have a decent amount of space from you and the monitor (since a tv will have a less PPI than a hardcore gaming monitor), you should be fine with buying a television for your primary setup. Also, Input lag can be alleviated by activating game mode on many TV's.
You should add "probably" to your title 🙂
What about a 4K display screen that is not a TV nor monitor.
What do you think about QN43Q60RAFXZA
43" Class Q60R QLED Smart 4K UHD TV (2019)? I like it because it is OLED, that way I can reduce the amount of blue light I exposed to while I work.
Good Samsung TV = £380 GBP
Good monitor £780 GBP
Samsung TV pretty much monitor quality.
Save 400GBP!
my dude, you trippin, 4k tv as a tv monitor is awesome.
Those led tvs has a strong Electomagnetic feilds which disturb the body if you sit close to it. Very bad
Hello. Is worth buying 4k tv LG 49UK7100 as secondary computer monitor only for movies if I have pc with i5-4670K and GPU GTX760 Asus 2GB OC?
Hi, could you do the best monitor to buy in 2019 on a budget? In England, i am struggling to find which is the best one.
Just need to use a better TV
I was about to go buy 4k tv for my new pc build…. then your video shows up.
