به نظر می رسد چیزی از یک فیلم علمی تخیلی است: جمعیت جدید خرچنگ که کاملاً از کلون های زنانه تولید مثل غیر جنسی است. اما آیا این یک گونه جدید است؟

  1. This can be a solution for world hunger. If they multiply fo fast, just put the in rivers of poor countries. Cheap source of protein for many hungry people. Who cares about local aquatic species. Human survival is more important.

  2. Being in the hobby, having multiple tanks around the house the marmokreb has been a good source of live feed for many of my fish. So if putting them to death may I recommend doing in this fashion. I could imagine how big bass can get if introduced to a healthy dose of protein. Just kidding.

  3. My local store can buy them. Gonna order one in and use its babies as feeders for my puffers.

I see people sell these online but I feel like that opens up too much risk to the environment if the wrong person orders them.

  4. I fail to see how parthogenisis alone provides an ecological niche denied to native crayfish species. I say turn them loose and see how they adjust to a variety of environments.

  5. 1 mutation created all of them and another mutation will kill all of them. All it takes is a virus or a bacteria mutating just right and since they all have same immune system they will all die out just as fast as they colonized their new territories.

  6. I work at Prince of Songkla University-Phuket in Thailand. My Research Assistant's boyfriend brought one into the lab 2y ago. Took me a while to work out what it was. I now have hundreds of them. They only live for a few months and start breeding at about 3 cm long. Do not know what to do with them. Red Oscars do like to eat them.
They are in petshops all over Phuket.

  7. Does it taste good? I mean, it sounds like Madagascar at least has developed a taste for them. If they are tasty, this problem could be a good thing for sustainable fishing, because it'd be very difficult to overfish these buggers, and you can easily make hatcheries anywhere in the world.

  8. It reminds me of that all-female species of lizards that reproduce parthogenically. It's really cool how there are species of animals that pop up now and then that are all asexually reproducing clones, and how successful they can be even without the advantage of genetic diversity.

  9. i've ate about a kilo of these this summer, catched them myself by converting a big PVC pipe (about 40cm in diameter) and added some stuff to make it work like a trap.
You can find some videos on how to make one with all kinds of materials but that was what i had laying around.
Altough im not sure if they are healthy for you because of all the water polution.
    They are super tasty though
