2. I'm so glad I've bought the 7.5 R. VW's just ruined the mark 8 golf

3. It's so ugly! Those droopy headlights make me sad. How could they mess it up so bad after the beautiful mk 7.5? Ugh, sad day when KIA and Hyundai make better looking vehicles 🙁

5. The different elements of that front end are fighting each other. Those black outside lines are hideous.

6. Oh my, what a complete design fail. It feels like VW panicked and told their designers to "make our cars look more modern/high tech" and they came up with expensive, unattractive and impractical design solutions. VW and VAG owners are conservative people, or else they'd just buy a Tesla instead.

10. Why is the GTE and GTD have better looking wheels than the GTI? 😆 It does seem like a 2018 Autobahn surplus. Damn! were the designers out to lunch? GTI was a drivers car, they turned it into something like a rental when you’re on holiday abroad.

12. I have a MK5 GTI 2009 and looks lots better than this crap.

13. that hood looks as if it has a massive engine inside it. but in reality works with 1.2 – 1.6 (standard models). this car kind of reminds me of a ugly designed asian car trying to look more western.. not liking it. i'd rather have a golf 7 or 7.5

17. It's lost the classic golf shape and I don't know whats going on with that front grill, looks like crap. I;m due to update my MK6 GTI, won't be buying a MK8 though.

I have a 7.5 Golf GTD in Isaac Blue, I get quiet a few comments on how good looking the car is, I had planned to pick another Golf, whilst I like the rear of the mk8, I have decided to stay with my current car for another 2 yrs. Just hope that VW will have changed the front look by then. Those cube lights are herrendous, looks like they borrowed them the a Kia Ceed.

23. What the hell is VW thinking, the sloping roofline is horrible looking. The interior looks like an 80's arcade with disco lighting. This MK8 wins the FUGLY award. Bring back the MK6, now that was a fantastic Golf.

31. Thomas, this is the first golf, let alone Volkswagen, that I find appealing. I’ve always felt their designs to be too plain and simple with many round and square shapes. The golf mk8 actually has some aggressive lines and a modern design that I think can compete with other sporty cars, yet still maintain a classy and efficient minimal German style.

34. With safety absolutely paramount these days, who the fuck gets rid of physical buttons for climate control, heated seats etc! Disaster waiting to happen. Note the new A3 still has physical buttons, so VW want us to buy them instead?!

36. Why does everybody complain about “cheap” rear doors? Every VW except Passat/Arteon and Touareg has plastic door panels in the rear. Same goes for Atlas, NMS Passat, Jetta, Tiguan.. plastic rear, soft touch front. I’m from America btw.

37. Certainly won’t be rushing to replace my mark 7.5 with one of these. Think VW’s designers have totally lost the plot.

41. Excellent review. That instrument panel does look like a step back with minimal physical controls. I think I'm really liking the overall appearance quite a bit!

42. Not bad but it seems overly boring and a step back like a 6.9 VW GTI, instead of an 8th gen.
    For some reason it looks like a downgrade and is made much more cheaper in the front, and in the interior.
    lack of knobs and buttons is very very very bad.
    Otherwise it is the same car same engine, etc.
    VW must be able to make these much cheaper than the last version, because of the lack of any new developments.
