As the mother of 2 incredible young men on the spectrum, as well as the wife of an individual who is high functioning on the spectrum, the younger sister of a brilliant man on the spectrum; and lastly an OT with 27 years of experience; I wanted to share something that people in the mainstream may not know- but may find interesting. I’ve heard it said that he looks like his soul is so pure. Indeed, I just bet it is! My experiences have taught me that one of the most admirable qualities of individuals on the spectrum, is their genuine and open hearts. Not one of these individuals that I have had the pleasure to meet, is able to tell a lie. It is not part of psychological/behavioral make – up as they are honest, in some situations maybe to a fault socially. These souls routinely wear their hearts on their sleeves, and there is a degree of vulnerability and innocence; which places a great responsibility on those of us lucky enough to be in their world. Many individuals are also quite aware with a kind of 6th sense, as to be able to look into the hearts of others and detect whether or not there is a level of respect, love and acceptance. My youngest son quickly perceives if someone is kind and he will respond in turn with a gentle smile, it is then at that moment you can see someone’s heart melt in front of you. So please carry this with you as you follow the amazing Kodi Lee! I guarantee the genuine and complete love you see him give to his family and friends; is most likely something that only the most blessed of us will ever know.
