  1. I think the truth is actually his mother was his best friend but somehow these two things got upside-down in his mind you can see to many flash back in previous episodes that his mother was so mean to Eliot and always hurting him. (Sorry for my bad English)

  2. Don't want to ruin a twist, but Bustle put forth a theory on the third personality that blows my mind and makes perfect sense. It is the hat! Mr Robot is two personalities that look the same but behave differently! This makes sense based on my confusion at Mr Robot seeming to behave as two different people to Elliot. Sometimes he is warm and loving and sometimes he is mean and vicious. Examples, withdrawal episode, picking up from school, theatre as a kind father, and then mean when he shoves him off the boadwalk and shoots him in the head in season two. When he is kind he has no hat, when he is mean is has the hat!!!!This is it! Think back to when Elliot has the aderall scene where he throws up? Even then Mr Robot is wearing the black hat that the strange older man had on in the scene during the concrete torture! This is a mind blowing twist and makes sense all the way through Remember when Elliot told Tyrell he should be looking up not in front of him. Sam left clues all the way!!Now we have to back and watch every episode and we will know which Mr Robot is on screen at any time!

  3. Darlene is the alt Elliot created to close out the abuse. Vera n Darlene are alts, Tyrell, Leon. I think Angela n prob a couple others.

  4. Anyone else still going through it? @AntifaSheriff on twitter, if you wanna commiserate

  5. Thank you, finally some detailed discussion about this series.

  6. The cocktail that the shaman gave him was most definitely Ayuhuasca.

  7. It doesn't make sense that young Elliot is the third personality, young Elliot is only featured in flashbacks. Plus, didn't we see a scene where young elliot is sitting in a chair in a mysterious office where his mother walks in and warns about this third personality? I would assume the third personality is going to be a more shocking reveal that forces the audience above all other mysteries, to rewatch the series.

  8. Maybe we are The 3rd Altar, maybe it’s always been us since Eliot has alway said “Hello Friend”. Slight off topic, it also explains Eliot’s short lived morphine addiction.

  9. I still just want to know what's on side "A" of the tape.

  10. Wtf just happened?
They said this episode would change everything. A) Act 4 was totally unexpected (for me anyway) and incredibly hard to watch. Like you guys, at some point I knew I what was coming was inevitable, and just like Elliot, all I could do was repeat no, no, no over and over. I've seen several scenes in plenty of shows and movies that just broke my heart, but this was the first time that my head actually began to hurt. I mean it started throbbing. I almost turned it off. B) Mr. Robot is gone. I think for good, and Elliot still isn't speaking to us. Damn!! C) What time is it?!?! What about the plan? Does Elliot even care anymore? Do we even care anymore? D) Elliott!!! DON'T FORGET YOUR SISTER (again)!!!! E) 3 or 4 episodes ago, I was sure most of us could tell the 3rd from "our" Elliott. Since episode 6, I have no phuckin' idea anymore. "Our" Elliot has become almost unrecognizable. I see brief flashes of remorse on his face, but that's about it.

  11. Fantastic review as always!
In my mind, the thematic link between Elliot's plan to take down the 1% of the 1% and his emotional journey about his abuse is control. In the first season he talked a lot about how corporate America and money ("the invisible hand") controlled us all and season 2 was about controlling his own mind and getting rid of Mr Robot and finally in season 3 the cyber bombings were out of Elliot's control because it was Mr Robot's plan and not his own. So, when Vera tries to calm Elliot's desperation in act 5 and says "You weren't the one in control", I think, it contextualizes Elliot's need to have agency. Before we thought, he wanted to free the people and save the world and all that basicallly purely out of idealism or maybe a sense of revenge for his father's death. Now with this new information I think, he can't stand playing along with the game of modern society because not being in control is at the root of his childhood trauma.

  12. Fantastic review, probably your best work. Appropriate that it was a review of one of the best TV episodes of all time.

  13. At the end of Vera’s final speech when Vera says “I see you” we see Elliot give a slight nod, but Krista by then is right behind Vera with the knife and Elliot has to see her … he may have been giving her permission to stab Vera as she did a second later.

  14. There are clues that Darlene was abused also – for example her online handle is Dolores Haze the character from Lolita who was abused by Humphrey.

  15. Elliot cannot hack himself. Remember in season one he tried looking himself up and found nothing. He had erased himself.

  16. I think when Elliot tells Mr Robot in season one that his dad was mad at him for telling his mom about the cancer and wouldnt talk to him again till he died I think Elliot actually told his mom about the abuse. The cancer excuse is Elliot covering the truth to himself. That would explain the anger and lack of love for the mother, not only was she physically abusive but she covered the sexual abuse. Remember when Elliot went out the window and the mom and dad are running to the scene where Elliot is lying on the ground the mom tells the dad that this was all his fault. I always wondered why she would say that and blame it on the dad. She knew what was wrong with Elliot in that moment. Mr Robot came to life that night in the room and was the protector that picked up the bat and then escaped out the window. That explains why in the next time we see them at the theatre it is after the fall because Elliot still has his sling Elliot/Mr Robot tells his dad that he is sick and he will not forgive him and then is so cold when he picks up the jacket and goes into the movie and talks to an alter as the movie starts. What confuses us throughout the early episodes is the feeling we get that Elliot and the dad are close friends. This is probably due to the fact that abusers are very good at fostering that feeling that they are your best friend. Because of that the victim feels conflicted. They feel like it must not be wrong because a father would not do something bad to their child, and the child loves the father, and feels guilty about revealing the abuse due to the damage that will happen to the parent. If you look closer at early episodes with Mr Robot there are actually many scenes where he is violent and mean toward Elliot as well as protective and caring. Reveals the hidden conflict Elliot has with his invented protector that looks like his dad. He has incorporated the best part of his dad but there are bits of the evil behind that that peeks through now and then.

  17. Definitely my favorite episode beyond his spirit walk episode.

  18. All of the known personalities are from elliot's family – mum, young elliot and Mr robot. Darlene is the only one not represented so far so there can only be one logical conclusion surely.

  19. Just wanted to point out what were false one drop tears and the excessive use of them generally in films and tv and particularly in this show. These computer generated tears are getting to be overused and looking falser the more they are used. What happened to wearing tight pants and producing real tears.

  20. I thought the music was over the top and deliberately. It was almost comical at times and I can't work out the reason why other than highlighting the falseness of the music.

  21. elliot has five alters. young elliot (a child alter, split off from the rest and permanently young, probably at the age when the trauma began), mr robot (an aggressive protector), the third (a protector), magda (a gatekeeper, does not take over but rather leads the other alters in switching and such, also appears to elliot in prison) and himself, the elliot we know

  22. Don't rewatch the whole show again until we figure out what the third identity is, or else you'll just have to restart

  23. I found it odd that Elliot never mentioned White Rose, someone who owns a lot more of NY than Vera could ever own.

  24. As the therapy session began, I thought the inevitable big reveal was going to be about a third personality, then for a second or two, I thought the reveal was that his sister is the third personality. However I rejected this immediately, because it makes no sense. Then about halfway through the session, it hit me that the obvious reveal is the not out of left field reveal. I'm still more interested to see who this third personality is, because I assume this third personality is the one that is capable of the most horrific actions.
