So how much water should I run through the system ? You forgot to mention on these to clean that cover. This one was dirty. I took some bleach an Dawn dish liquid an some hot water an let it soak for 15 min. Then gave it a scrub an now it looks like new. Once it was back together I took a 32 oz cup an filled it up, at the door, like you are getting some water. The first cup came out looking like a cup of cola. Yeah, it was that dark. The filter was brand new straight out of the package. I ran 10 cups 32 oz of water through the system. At seven cups it looked clean but just to make sure I ran 3 more cups. For a total of 10 cups. I changed that filter out 5 yrs ago. The water was slow to come out, most likely the filter was getting clogged. Now it will fill a 8 oz up in a few seconds.

  10. This was a huge help because my filter was stuck to the cover, so when I saw the video I realized they were supposed to be separate.  I just had to pry them apart with the screw driver then use man strength to twist the filter – it felt like it was cemented on

  14. There is a couple of things that you can check out. Verify that the water is on to the unit, also crack the line at the fill valve on the backside of the unit to make sure water is getting to it. The next thing I would check is to see if the arm for the ice maker is in the down position. If all of this checks out, then I would look to see if the fill tube that comes into the ice maker is frozen. If it is not frozen then you either have an ice maker issue of a fill valve issue.

  15. We suggest that you hold a glass under the water dispenser and have water flow until it's a constant steady stream. After doing this your ice maker should start working properly.

Why do we need to spend additional money to change the Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice/Water filter, also every six months? Can the refrigerator be programmed for every nine or twelve months, and if so, how to do this?
