11. Thank you for such an informative video regarding VPN's. I too have IPVanish. Is it true that while our ISP cannot see what we are doing while on a VPN, they do however "know" you are using one? I suspect my ISP is throttling my speed while IPVanish is in use. I don't want to bore you with the many facets of resolving speed issues, let it suffice to say that I've done just about everything but still experience about a 75% speed degradation, that's a lot. Wasn't like that a year ago as my speed loss was negligible. The good news is that I'm blessed with having enough speed left to do whatever I want to do. But I'm still concerned none-the-less. So, in your opinion, do you believe that an ISP, knowing that you are using a VPN, will throttle your speed? Thanks for all you do. 🙂

15. The only reason why I dont have a VPN.. How do we know we can trust any of these companies? I am pretty sure ALL tech companies are politically bias and are hard Left leaning. They push their ideology onto people in many forms, they are trying to take over and control everything. I think that is very clear with all the censorship. How do we know the VPN companies are not owned by the big tech companies or are funded by them? I can see them logging your info and selling any data they can while you pay for the privilege. Essentially doubling or tripping their profits while you go on with a false sense of security.

    If you pick a VPN server in Canada, then your machine and the server in canada are using something that allows it to still send it to YOUR machine versus someone else.

    A court order doesnt save you in this matter. Making it 'encrypted' doesnt mean you can legally do things your government deems illegal.

    A VPN doesn't protect you from anything.

    Reality

    Without VPN: traffic from your pc to your ISP to destination site. Most data could be in clear but Https encrypt some.

    With VPN:
    SAME AS ABOVE BUT VPN client encrypt the whole traffic data in a custom data packet (all internet data travels in packets, even without VPN, but this time the normal packet will be into another packet. Which is called ENCAPSULATION) and will be tunneled to your VPN server which means that the encrypted + encapsulated packets are passed to your ISP AS USUAL but encrypted, so he can't see what's inside, the routed to your VPN server which finally sends the where they have to go Netflix or whatever).

    This extra passage also determined the problem of being slower than normal connection also because it depends where it is located. If you choose a VPN server 10000 km away will be much slower than a server 1000 km away (but not necessarily safer)

40. Netflix in the UK don't let you use a VPN. You'll get a message saying "you're using a blocker" and you have to switch it off or you can't access netflix. I used express vpn free for a month using kodi and it was brilliant and fast.

42. Great video, well explained. I work in IT so I have a slight criticism. Totally disagree that people who only 'surf' shouldn't bother with a VPN. AI is on the verge of transforming the world. The subsequent data mining will expose a lot of people's intimate online behaviour . I'm no conspiracy theorist, but the following profiling and potential hacking will leave a lot of people at risk. Everyone should have VPN subscription. Everything you have ever done on the internet is on a server, somewhere. Forever. It's surprising that so many of my friends are not aware of this fact, especially kids. Everyone should use VPN, always. It's not 100%, like you said, but it is absolutely needed in today's world – by all.
