4. The EEC, that was an economic objective.
   The EU (created in November 1993, post Maastricht) is a political construct.

5. Amusing. Hesiltine's argument, that we should be in it to reform it, hasn't aged well. Cameron said the same thing in 2016, so 40 years later no progress has been made. I think we've given that one enough of a chance.

6. very simmilar arguments , over 40 years later,,,, the difference is europe and the UK has totally changed…as has the world*
   communism is over and finished, at least in europe*, the berlin wall is down, the warsaw pact gone*, czecheslovakia,yugoslavia gone, the map changed at least 10times…, nato has increased in members and size*
   …this was unthinkable in 1979…

   australia, NZ , both former UK colonies* most of their trade is with china , not so in 1979*….china is the leading economy in the world in 2019 and will continue on its global superpower path , with or without president trump, same goes for india*,russia,brazil,mexico, nearly all major countries….now are members of trade agreements*

   canada,mex & usa are in nafta, china is in asean,
   most european countries are in efta-EU*, its no longer 1979…

   so the EC the european community is no longer relevant, its now the EU, even the UK is very different under devolution,brexit and different parties*…

   why did the UK, go into european common market* in the first place?

Stay with your third world commonwealth, enjoy Blackpool in summer instead of invading us with your dirty tourists, but just don't cross the Channel. Trump will take good care of you.

17. We should never have joined the EU. Once we come out, the EU will have lost a massive contributor and it will only be a matter of time until Germany see us thrive and follow us.
