9. it is a disaster. You will spend more time trying to find out why it does not work , than actually riding your bike. Or worse, having an accident playing around with the menus trying to make it work, instead of looking at the road ahead. I bought it for navigation, of course. And even after plenty software updates it still does not work well. If you finally get it to navigate and happen to find a blocked road where need to ride "around the block" , it will surely send you 180° wrong, once the route is found again…I have learned to must trust the navigation of this thing at all. Komoot that works so well on my cell phone suddenly does not work reliably with latest Garmin Software update. You prepare your route with Komoot, download it to 1030, and while everything appears to be ok and start riding…there is nothing stored. So you get your cellphone and then everything works…1030 really drives me mad. For example, activate the battery saving mode (because the battery on my more than 1 year 1030, will last maybe 6 hours but not much more) and it looses GPS signal. What on earth has battery saving mode have to do with GPS tracking…no clue…Bottom line, I wish I had never bought this thing. A pity, because I was quite satisfied with my previous Garmin devices (910XT, 520, 935)

11. Hey if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it…pretty simple. No need to rabbit on about it.

12. Expect it to work fine, if a bit glitchy, for about a year before it develops a problem that will require the purchase of a new model. Garmin has adopted the newest of American business models… design the products to fail quickly and require replacement. Then take those products back for a pittance that can only be applied to a new purchase, repair and then re-sell as manufacture refurbished to new gullible marks.

26. I am curious about saved routes that have returns over a previous segment. In the past Garmin would stop turn by turn after you retrace over previous roads you took. Any update on this for 600?

27. Do not buy this garmin unit 1030. Major Bt connectivity issues and freezes up for 14 hours until battery dies. I’ve waited on hold for atleast 45 min to an hour every call to Garmin. I’m on the latest firmware updates. Not worth $100 let alone $599.

28. I hear too many complaints about Garmin and Mio. I think Sigma knows what they are doing as a specialized company. I will go for the Sigma Rox 12.0.

Got one, there made with Cheap very breakable fragile plastic I do a lot of ultra endurance so I am out for days on end without getting home this product is is not for the outdoors and it froze on me an many occasions, just as well I brought my old 810 for back up, I ended up using the old 810 for most of my adventures of many 1000's of KMs.
    I can see where they thought they were going with this, but, but its a failure, cheaply made and the software is still in beta, constantly freezing on me and there was no way of rebooting it, the device would finally decide to reboot after 5 mins or more of being frozen – go to wahoo I have have loads of garmin devices lately they seem to be making cheaply produced and beta products I have simply gone off garmin have the vector 3 too, absolute trash product, seems to me like in their effort to stay one step ahead of the market they are willing to give out beta products at the customers expense and frustration.
    Don't be a guinea pig save your money and sanity go to a different brand.

31. I have that unit and I dont recommend it unless you need a full-navigation system. the software is still at beta state, has inacceptable bugs (for that high price). The good thing is a long battery ife and great display with enhanced touch screen performance. I also like the training stats, which are useful for me for proper training. But if its the only purpose and you are racing, go for a wahoo instead or wait a bit for more new firmware updates

33. I just got rid of my Edge 820 due to its almost unusable touch screen. I wonder if the edge 1030 has the same crappy screen technology as the Edge 820, which by the way was worse than my palm pilot. I am waiting for the Edge 520 plus, which is push button only. I just hope that Garmin decides to actually test their software this time rather than have their customers do that.

37. Hi, I got the Edge 1030 and the extended battery pack that fits underneath it. My problem that I have is that I have an Enve handlebar so the normal Garmin mount does not fit. I have the Enve Garmin mount but that cannot take the extended battery. Need some advice what to do as I'm doing long distance rides and got that specially for longer battery life. Please help!!

Probably an unpopular comment considering the bulk of comments here, but if you want the very best navigational aids while touring, this is basically the way to go, especially if you want the smartphone integrations. I realize people balk at price like this, but this is a device that will last you for years and years. Not saying you have to buy something like this, just that not everyone has the same money constraints, nor riding requirements. Especially considering you can charge something like this with a dynamo hub and basically power it for the entire tour.

41. Hello, I have both edge 1030, and the 935. Is there anyway to have my training session synchronized in both devices? I use 1030 for cycling , and 935 for swimming and running, but I cannot see overall activities accumulated in one place, so recovery readings etc are not true…any idea how to resolve it? Thank you!

44. Hey Riz (or anyone else who reads this), can you pull up your current GPS coordinates (Lat/Long) on this thing? I like to Geocache with my recumbent trike, and am trying to find the right cycling GPS for that.
