2. People stay in poverty for making stupid decisions. They'll be making only 20k and then decide to have like 4 children and then complain and blame it on the market. Don't have children you can't afford! It's not hard! I have 4 cousins that dropped out of high and had children. Another graduated but was careless and got pregnant while she was planning to go to college. It's also relationship problems. A family member of mine had 5 children with 4 different men, then got married to a man she had only knew for 4 months and now she wants a divorce after just a year, and she's declared bankruptcy too.

   Wait until you have good education and income and don't marry someone you hooked up with at a bar and have only known for a few months. Take your relationship seriously. And don't have more children than you can afford! Don't have a child while you're working at a fast food restaurant! Which is what my cousin did…

   But yeah I know people aren't going to change, they're going to keep making extremely stupid decisions, so apparently we got to use tax money from smart people to pay for them.

17. If you’re making under $40k a year and live in a major city, you definitely cannot afford to have kids. People need to quit blaming society for their poor life choices. The only social program that’s necessary is cash assistance for the poor. No free money for middle class people.

18. In watching this, and in listening to the patients I treat. It seems to me that the first things that needs to be done is to calculate the average cost of living for a 2 bedroom apartment and a 2-3 bedroom single family home (and average that out), and the essentials such as Garbage- Electric-Heat- and 1 average vehicle per household with insurance (to get to and from work)- and 1 phone line (so people can communicate with work and school and family)- and internet access (for children to complete their studies- and average food costs- and Set Then RESET the Poverty Level to a "fair" level! ALSO – reset the tax policy for single parent families so they can "write off" child care expenses- A single parent cannot work if they can't afford child care- and I am pretty sure the goal is for adults to work and contribute to society-contribute to SS and medicare and such

21. In America, something only becomes an issue when it affects whites. When it just affects black people… well, then its not really a problem. But as soon as a significant number of whites are affected by something, then the "machine" gets into action to try to do something about it.

23. How can you eliminate poverty by bringing in more and more poor illegal immigrants? USA needs to care for it's own citizens, veterans, homeless people first and then about the rest of the world.

And look at China how they had lifted over 700 million people out of poverty within the 40 years and the remaining people who are left to be completed by end of 2020 is their goal… what is the strategy of our own government or other countries doing the same?!?… Diddly squat!!! No real plan of a solution to even solve nor really care working at the same time!!!
    It has worldwide recognition by foreign leaders, ambassadors, and government officials and the private sector hailing China's effort among other achievements!
    China's model for lifting their people out of poverty has influenced Africa and Russia who are seeking the same results!

30. Illegal Aliens are taking over service industry jobs and those from China, India, etc., with H1B Visas are taking over the tech, professional jobs. Americans, like these have been cut out of the job market. Also, Artificial Intelligence, Automation will be taking over a lot of jobs, previously done by humans.

    Fast food and convenient stores?? Now are completely automated Do not apply!!!!
    Groceries?? If you can't print what you need call a drone to your home services now available!!!!

33. Poverty is a big problem… children cannot get out of poverty because of parents not earning enough. Parents cannot earn more because they have small children, someone needs to sit with them.
    Have u realized that many people in poverty are religious? This is a vicious cycle dictated by church and politicians who are interested in having blind, inexpensive labor power.
    American system sucks, obviously: no health insurance, no welfare. However, people have brain, and logic. Instead of having children randomly, get a job and sufficient income first, so ur children won’t face poverty :/

    …which highlights 2 things:
    1. The obvious lack of success in tackling USA poverty compared to other countries;
    2. How little impact US policies have compared to other countries—this shown by the quite short length of the US bar in the chart.

    The good news from this is that an easy solution should be to dump the current nearly useless US policies, and pick the best bits from the policies of all the countries which are far outperforming the US.
    All that would leave then is to actually implement the new useful policies.

    Does anyone have a credible source for international spending per capita @ PPP dollars to combat poverty? I'm curious if US's poverty situation is as ridiculous as the health situation, where we spend more than double most of the rich countries but get a very bad return.
