The Datel MIDI Interface Cartridge, plus the cynthCART v2 using the Mini Xpander+, might have been a better option? Going by you don't want to stick with the original case?

Nice work. Hopefully you are going to wire in an actual 88 key synth keyboard to it? Put the 64 and the carts and switches in a nice box maybe with a window and light and have the keyboard external. Or just use a midi interface to a nice 88 key controller. But hey maybe that is what you were already doing?
