  1. Aw, yes the Cossacks, I hope they remember every single civilian and town they destroyed in military conquest on their part. because other people remember them as the monsters they have shown themselves to be. And their actions will not be forgotten. (This is personal)

  2. Glossed over the ottoman enslavement of christians in southeastern europe. The ottoman's didn't end slavery until the 1800's.

  3. 3:04 And you could say they were Hungary for more, huh?

    Gets Prague-Defenestrated

  4. 2:39 "… alienating both farmer inhabitants…"?
    Get it?

    I'll show myself out.

  5. I know it’s not your fault, John, but the way you pronounce Ivan makes me actually want to commit slip’n’slide. In Cyrillic ( Иван) sounded out it says ( Eee-Vah-nn.) not ( Eye-van), obviously Ivan was Russian, and therefore he’d be ( Eee-Vah-Nn) not ( Eye-Van.)

  6. I mean Anna Ng is their best song, but what is the second?

The successes of the Dutch Republic and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth just proves why a diverse and pluralist society is so important.

  9. Suleyman The Magnificent should have invested in exploring and colonizing more instead of focusing on conquering iraq and the Safavids..

  10. Should be called western european history…dissapointing

  11. Correction: Jizya tax was lower than the Islamic Tax(Zakat) and it did not include people with good income

  12. I'm sure it was mehmed the 2nd / the conqueror

  13. iron hand? you mean the proverbial topaz fist?

  14. Please do Islamic history!!!

  15. As a Lithuanian I'm thankful and I respect that you gave attention to our region as It usually falls short in Europen history books. But why did'nt you pronounce any names? It would have been real treat to hear how you mispronounce our native language. Keep up the good work team, your content is one the best youtube has to offer!

  16. First birdhouse in your soul second particle man third Istanbul parentheses not Constantinople parentheses

The Dutch have the best Apple Pie in the world. Berlin does have enough luxury goods. I had a beautiful apartment there in Frankforter Thor. I like to have it again.

  18. No joke, John straight up looks and sounds happier when he's not talking about West Europe.

  19. The Ottoman Sultan who conquered Constantinople from the Byzantine Empire is Mehmet II, not Mehmet I

  20. Wow somebody actually mentioned PLC in a history video. MAD PROPS.

  21. Bulgarian slavery under the Ottomans was not peachy at all and I do not understand the part with the Ottomans not prosecuting Christians. They very much did so, at least with us. And cutting of heads was on the menu if you don't accept.

  22. Misspelled Suleiman's name, it's "lei" not "ley"

  23. This episode is very unobjective, its shows russia for 4/5th of the video and Poland only as a fraction

  24. Just a reminder that ukraine wasn't a country before 1991

  25. Screw you. My life damn well will be lived in the long run.
Curing old age is a thing that is happening.

  26. "Unsurprisingly, murder was often involved." I came here because I was doing research on my Polish side. I've long been frustrated at the ad nauseum focus in schools and beyond- on Western European history, BUT in finally hitting a point where I'm learning something about Polish succession O.O I'm starting to see WHY things are so western-centric. Ease, for one- and frankly… it's less complicated. Heck, even the Tutors are easier to understand! I love Poland 🇵🇱 especially for its (again, relatively) pluralistic state- I think it really was ahead of most of Europe in that regard. But- western Europe is easier, and probably seen as more relevant, though that's a shame bc EE is ❤️
    Thanks for covering it.

  27. Whoah whoah WHOAH! If Istanbul is TMBG's THIRD best song…what do you consider the second and first sir?!

  28. I have Eastern European in me according to 23andme just yesterday 10-10-2019

  29. They Might Be Giants's best song? Don't Let's Start, of course.

  30. The christian rulers, for the most time, tried to protect the jews. It was the people who wanted them dead. Kings and Princes saw the benefit of having them in, but the people were driven by religious zeal, ignorance and antisemitism. This was also true for muslim regions and there have been progroms in muslim Spain for example. But over all the Muslims did a better job of protecting and integrating minorities.

  32. It is highly doubtful that Ivan the Terrible killed his son. In addition to the vague stories of 3 persons after the death of Ivan, there is no evidence for this. Including the state of the remains of his son.

  33. I love this one, my mind can grasp it because of how clear you spoke. Thanks!

  34. The Ottomans had a weird system. Why would you have your sons scatter to the provinces to then raise political factions in those provinces? That's the easiest way to foment civil wars between competing brothers once the father sultan died, with their factions egging them on. The better way was the Chinese way–DON'T allow your sons to scatter to the provinces, keep them under tight control in one court, have the oldest son ascend the throne, and keep most government power in the hands of scholar-bureaucrats who attain their positions through examinations and other meritocratic mechanisms.

  35. Is there a petition to bring you from the past back? I’ll sign that 100 times!

  36. Yeah, but now mosels are just exploding things and people.

  37. Please do south asian history series

  38. Serious question here: Why are we talking about the Ottomans? Anatolia isn’t part of Europe, and their European holdings were inhabited by Greeks/Slavs.
