Manhatten Transfer were awsome in Vancouver BC last year!
27 years later; today Janis can still bring it…
well well, the manhattan squad really got the crowd up and grovving"
they are rockin' da house. probably only a couple of dozen of the audience know the words, or understand the words, but duzzint matter. dey be rockin' da peeps:)
when my daughter was a toddler, we would sing this together. She loved it!!
In which Janis Siegel tears the roof off the auditorium. Would ove to know where she gets her energy… Have viewed many of the MT videos on Youtube, and am concluding that this Japanese concert may have captured them at the peak of their powers. Exceptions being Offbeat of Aveneus and the powerful 'So You Say' from their Brasil album, wherein Cheryl Bentyne gets to show her dramatic range and power.
On this day in 1981 {August 22nd} the Manhattan Transfer performed "The Boy From New York City" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand
Three months earlier on May 23rd it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #7 and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100
It reached #8 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart
Was originally recorded by the Ad-Libs in 1965; their version peaked at #8 on the Hot Top 100 chart
In the UK in 1978 the Darts' version peaked at #2…
RIP Mr. Clark
This isn't their song…the Ad-Libs sing this song. These guys suck
OH, but the hours I spent in the pool and eating hotdogs with this song in my head…… Thanks! 🙂
신디사이저 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
what he said
has anyone uploaded the LP original version? All I find is live and phony impersonators fooling with the name.
They knock me on my ass. This is what real music sounds like, people.
I wish I could hear you. Good luck to you!
@moonscorch no matter what colour you are…if you've got it you've got it and these cats have got it! And btw that Asian audience are gettin down to these White folks 🙂

I had to sing this in primary school for an assembley lol.
Haha. My show choir is learning this. This will be so fun to sing! Haha. And my Show Choir teacher said we need a cute guy to walk across stage. After this, we do Firework. :p
This song was 30 years ago no.10 in the world charts #manhattan #transfer
Why are the women wearing so much clothes?
Performance Confidence: She pushes her hair up in a scrunchy, strolls on stage – and belts.
I just saw them tonite at the Columbia Festival of the Arts and they are as great as ever. But, they did not do The Boy from New York City or Operator.
janis segal can sing sing sing, as all of them can, and don't forget about laurel masse
the lead singer reminds me of the girl from the movie, "My big fat greek wedding."
I saw them do this at Max's Kansas City in New York. They're great performers.
