  1. There are reasons to us AC97 front panels. It's a different system than the back panel, and can provide separate audio devices to allow headphones on the back and front to be different. Most motherboards, at least from the time, allowed for using AC97 on HDA headers for those purposes.

  2. ive never really seen myself as a "tech".. eventho i have built, fixed, modded, etc computers for probably around 17 years now. .. and i still do so to this day. with that being said, Mr.Carey… i emjoy watching your videos and eventho Im unsure why it asks me to subscribe to your channel all the time (as i have done so many times) i will KEEP clicking that button and stalking you until i am banned good Sir. LOL ..

Again.. Thank you for the time you take and the information you share..

When it's built Right, they fly. But, to me that system was just wennerd together and stuck someplace like a body shop, where their was a lot of dust all the time.

  5. great video. I learned a lot more technical stuff and some stuff about pci explained in plain english.

  6. I have been watching your videos and mustered the courage to upgrade my PCU in my HP and clean my CPU cooler. I plan on getting some new thermal paste for it eventually too. The computer looks clean and sound quiet too.

  7. Is there a big difference in using 90-92% IPA vs 99%? I mainly use it to clean dirty PCB's. I paid $10/Bottle for 99%.

  8. An FX-8350 with a stock cooler makes a great space heater. Especially if you turn "Turbo" on. Haha

  9. I have a z390e and it has 2 pcie 16x 3.0 slots. The manual says they’re the same, times sure have changed 🙂

  10. Enjoying your videos Carey.
    Thanks 👍

  11. In referencing one of your final comments regarding whether to configure fans in a "push/pull" configuration, I understand your frustration in having to deal with folks that think there is no difference. Wet your fingertip and then put it an inch from your mouth and blow on it. Then draw air into your mouth by inhaling! You'll see why the "push" configuration is important and Carey is EXACTLY correct in only installing certain fans in a push configuration, other than a fan to "exhaust" the case!

  12. really great loved every minute couldn't wait to watch the next

  13. I am sure I would have gone the leaf blower route if I were into computer repair. I am going to assume there are people out there who would use those aerosol cans for dusting….that's really crazy to me!

  14. Great videos cheers

  15. long time viewer first time commenter great videos. As you said you have the experience and the continuing business never mind the trolls. I build my own pc for over 15 years and families they are the worst at paying for services want to give me the old ones after I build a new one for them. They last so long I call them toe stubbers too old to be viable now.

  16. No.1 Get the leaf blower!

  17. Well.. based on your definition, i am a tech, i have repaired literally hundreds of computers but in industry, and like your doing, at home. But i have still learned much from watching this.
Message to people here – if interest in moving forward into the hardware field, consider the A+.

  18. I've been a moonlight computer tech for 23 years. To be quite honest AMD has been to most troublesome of all my diagnostic/repair days. They sort of eat themselves up over time. I just do not like them. I have an intel based home brew gaming machine, the fans never even increase speed while I'm gaming. Difference between AMD and Intel right there.
Regarding fans and blowing air on them etc. everything has blocking diodes for those reasons. I probably should have ruined a lot of motherboards already if there was any truth to that theory.
One last note, if one has a piece of paper that says you are a tech, that does not make one a tech either. Performance and results is what makes a person a tech.

  19. It still amazes me there is a company that said, I know what, lets sell canned air, just blow on it ffs it does the same thing

  20. remind me not to stop for a coffee after the dustings,

  21. perfect blending of educational and entertaining. You have talent in more than just PC repair/diagnostics. From an old senior field service tech for Burroughs Computer Corp. way back in the 1980's.

  22. After first customer to bring in their computer infested with roaches, i won't open any systems inside my workshop. Every computer now gets bagged when it comes in.

  23. the FX3800-3850 throttle at temps over 65C

  24. Great video, even 5 years later…

  25. A compressor with a nozzle is my go to cleaning tool for my home built pc..the concern with it of course is in the air inside the tank having moisture and possibly oil in it…but a leaf blower could have crap in the extension tube and could knock your case over..a microfiber cloth used with the pc fully dis-assembled is the best method and the cheapest..just do what you are most comfortable with/have available, and be smart/logical about it

  26. Good stuff! I'm wishing I knew you in person. It's lonely at the top. Also, I would use a white coffee filter instead of paper towels that might leave lint behind.

  27. I have been following you for years Carey. You and your videos are inspiring and refreshing. Long may you reign

  28. Great work, I could have used this video last week. I broke down a PC without verifying its components. I had checked it in with the Geek Squad and they condemned it.

I realize this is recorded in 2015.. An A+ tech, not only with yourself, biz ethics, and production quality!! My thoughts as a small time system builder.. Pulling air through that cpu heat pipe system actually would've been better as a flow though. However need to make sure to keep the dust out or the intake side will wall up with dust then back to thermal throttling will occur. Ive installed filters before and this seams appropriate application for an air filter system. .Anyway great job ive watched a few of your videos and they're all top notch A+ thank you for your standard of excellence.

  30. The original heatsink fan was weak for that processor.
Yes, you were given a mess.

I took a A+ class, I told the school why don't you have working computer techs come in and lecture the class ? Carey not only shows the hardware part but talks about the business aspect of it.

  32. My girlfriends "perfect" rabbit found a restingground for 2 days, and ate up the small wires inside my HAF X (i had put the PSU in the top and not bottom, so an "entrance" was was open for it)- now my homepage is carrotsforyou dot com i guess – but i fixed it – guys like this, gives you confidence to fix things – even changed motherboard in one of my other computers today – oh the confidence – thankyou :))

  35. Now I just had to take issue with a comment of yours that I found to be a sort of truth. Building Computers IS rocket science. Ask me why, why I think it is? Ok, why he asks. And I get a funny smile and I tell you. I built a computer and when I turned power on it made a very loud bang and launched it's self way up in the air. So it was trying to become a rocket and did it's best to go into orbit. heheheh, just kidding… It just went bang and the power supply was the only part to get into a stable orbit around the moon and if you look really hard maybe you can still see it up there….. LOL….

  36. Learned a bunch of good tips. Good informative teacher.

  37. I use methelated spirits. Its cheaper

  38. Its 2019/2020 and you would think by now there is a better idea than fans in computers to reduce heat and reduce dust . The dust only takes 2-3 years to build up thereby adding problems very quickly

  39. Very very very useful and extremely good advice re customer expectations

  40. Just found your channel, I like it so far. From your backyard shot I see bougainvillea. You're not in Phoenix by any chance are you? Just asking because I like to figure out where a picture or video location just by what's in the shot.

  41. if you use a pull fan with a heatsink mounted flat on the cpu you cant pull the air, as the air would come in from the side and go up, not flowing over the contact point with the cpu. That said, generally with air its better to create a vacuum with air movement then overpressure.
Considering amd 3 serie ryzen cpu`s, they are now much better and a better value for money then intel.Power efficiency is better then intels line up as right now.
