would be much easier to hear difference if you just used snare sound and left the rest out !! …common sense .

Hi, I just did the mod and I further recommend that everyone should put some hot glue also to keep the capacitor in place so it does not stress the soldering points. Best.
Whilst I appreciate that you have figured out a way to fix that god awful snare, Korg never once made the comparison to the Tr808 as far as I know. People assumed it was going to be 808-like because it was advertised as "completely analog". I would say the snare, before your mod, sounded like one of those old organs, you'd find at a salvation army with a rhythm built in. All the same, thanks for fixing it.
It doesn't sound like that if you turn the decay down. Although I have nothing to compare it to because this is my first sequencer.
Sounds like just op amp distortion. Wire it to provide individual outs and mix on a mixer..
Metatron, sorry to hear that your attempt at the mod failed. if you go to the gearslutz forum where this mod is discussed (the link is in this video description) then you would have read the many warnings telling you to use a 15W soldering iron ONLY. All 15W soldering irons are small-tipped. Which leads me to believe you were not heeding the instructions and warnings about using a bigger iron. Soldering is only for people who have a background in electronics. In particular, SMD soldering is expecially fiddly and requires some soldering experience. re: 104 being the "right" amount….if your attempt failed then how would you know if this is right or wrong? the size is my estimation based on having tried dozens of sizes (102, 202, 104, 204, etc etc). there are some who have installed a socket to swap in and out the different "flavours" of caps, which is a great idea, as the different sizes do make the snare sound different.
there is also someone who has suggested that you can just push an SMD 104 cap onto the C78 location with some blu-tack, which is a nice idea for those who are not prepared to do the soldering. Although it is less "permanent" it may be more suitable for yourself to try this first?

I have opened the Volca beats to check how hard this would be quickly abandoned the thought of soldering on this small a surface… But I played with various connection snare circuit and found this (https://soundcloud.com/mmedoduffort/korg-volca-beats-snare-hack-mod-without-soldering). I never liked that Volca because of the damn snare. Your mod changed that! So a 104 Farad capacitor it is soldered to C87? Will buy it and md it too. thx for working that out!
